TheStrat Suite for NinjaTrader 8 (beta)
TheStrat Suite has a free, open-source port for NinjaTrader 8. It brings the TradingView Suite (v3.1.1) to NinjaScript: candle types, Strat combos, Failed 2s, full timeframe continuity, magnitude and exhaustion targets, stops and alerts, across six timeframes on one chart. It is in beta. It compiles and loads in NinjaTrader, and the side-by-side check against TradingView is still under way, so expect rough edges and please report them.
It is an indicator only. It never places orders.
What you need
- NinjaTrader 8 (8.1.x) on Windows. A free NinjaTrader account with the Sim101 account is enough to try it.
- Data for the symbol: a live or delayed feed, or Market Replay data.
Install
- Download
TheStratSuite_NT8_v0.2.0.zipfrom the ninjatrader folder on GitHub (it is indist/). - In NinjaTrader: Tools > Import > NinjaScript Add-On, and pick the zip. NinjaTrader compiles it.
- Open a chart, right-click, choose Indicators, and add TheStratSuite.
If the import is refused, copy the two .cs files from the zip into Documents\NinjaTrader 8\bin\Custom\Indicators\TheStratSuite\, open a NinjaScript Editor window and press F5 to compile.
Load enough history. Exhaustion levels need 52 candles of each timeframe, and NinjaTrader loads several timeframes from the chart's own history. In the chart's Data Series window, set Days to load to about 90 on minute charts and about 5,000 on a daily chart. If a timeframe is still short, the data table shows a Short history row naming it and the setting to raise.
What is the same as on TradingView
- The same six timeframe slots and presets, every signal family, and the same settings and defaults, grouped into one property grid.
- Bar types, Failed 2 methods, and hammer and shooter rules, checked candle for candle against the Suite's grammar in automated tests.
- Magnitude and exhaustion targets, Take Action Windows, stops with break-even, the Lead filter, Domino, FTFC, the data table and the debug panel.
- The color system. Green and red mean bull and bear everywhere, never good and bad.
- The same alert conditions. Each is its own toggle.
Where NinjaTrader differs
| Area | NinjaTrader port |
|---|---|
| History | Each forming higher-timeframe candle is rebuilt from the chart bars up to that point, so history shows what you would have seen live. TradingView's history reads each higher-timeframe candle as it finally closed, so older signals can differ between the two. The live bar should match. |
| Alerts | Off by default. Enable Alerts sends them to NinjaTrader's Alerts Log with a sound, on live data only. There are no webhooks. |
| Timeline labels | NinjaTrader cannot scroll past its right margin, so Keep Timeline Labels On Screen (on by default) pulls a far label back to the chart's right edge. |
| Chart types | Tick, volume, range and Renko charts are allowed. Heiken-Ashi charts are refused (see below). |
| Outputs for strategies | Hidden plots for strategies and Market Analyzer: FtfcState (+1 up, -1 down, 0 conflict) and Tf1Signal to Tf6Signal (+1 bull, -1 bear, 0 none). |
No Heiken-Ashi
TheStrat reads the traded high and low of each candle, and Heiken-Ashi candles are averages of several candles, so their highs and lows are not prices that traded. On a Heiken-Ashi chart the port shows only "Heiken-Ashi charts are not supported", with no lines, colors or alerts. Switch the chart to regular candles or bars.
Report a problem
Open an issue on GitHub with your NinjaTrader version, the symbol and chart timeframe, the preset, and a screenshot. A compile error is the most useful report: copy the full error list. A side-by-side screenshot with TradingView is the fastest way to pin down a mismatch. The port's README has the full list of differences and the beta test checklist.
